David Cole and Peter Erickson are the founders and co-owners of Epic Brewing Company. Cole and Erickson, originally from California, started an international aquaculture company in Utah in 1992. In 2008, Utah law changed allowing these two entrepreneurs to pursue their longtime dream of opening a strong beer microbrewery in Utah, like those they frequented in the Golden State. Together, they have teamed with Brewmaster Kevin Crompton, formerly from Bohemian Brewery. Crompton has been brewing for more than 20 years (since 1994) and has brewed for three Utah breweries and another in Hawaii.

Quality winegrowing in America was in its infancy in the 1970’s. The Spurrier tasting in Paris in 1976 gave the first international credibility to California Cabernet and Chardonnay. Three years later, again in Paris, and the following year in Beaune, The Eyrie Vineyards 1975 Pinot noir brought international attention to Oregon, a wine region unfamiliar to almost anyone except a handful of hardy pioneers. With these two tastings, Oregon won its first recognition as the New World home for Pinot noir.

Faust, the wine, celebrates a legend which has inspired many great minds, among them the German poet Goethe, from whose masterpiece we draw our inspiration. In Goethe’s most famous work, the aging scholar Dr. Faust barters his soul in the afterlife in exchange for another chance at youth. He gets his chance, yet ultimately his soul is saved by love. Faust is indeed the fruit of renewed passion for Agustin Huneeus, though Mephistopheles has not yet appeared to claim his soul. The underlying premise for all of the wines he has ever produced has been that great wines must be a reflection of a great vineyard. Faust is not. Instead, Faust is a tribute to Napa Valley’s noblest grape – full-bodied, decadently rich and unctuous Cabernet Sauvignon.

Wine plays an important role in Fifty Shades of Grey, reflecting the sensuality that pervades every encounter between Anastasia and Christian. I’ve always had a penchant for good wine, so helping to create the blends Red Satin and White Silk felt like a natural extension of the Fifty Shades Trilogy. I hope all of you curl up with a glass to savor the romance and the passion.

Frog’s Leap was founded by John Williams in 1981. Started on a shoestring budget even the name itself was ‘borrowed’ by combining Stag’s Leap, where John started his Napa Valley winemaking career, and the Frog Farm, where the early vintages were made. The winery was relocated in 1994 when John and his family moved Frog’s Leap to the historic Red Barn in the heart of the Rutherford appellation. This grand and welcoming building was built in 1884 as the Adamson Winery and sits amongst some of our 200 acres of estate grown vineyards.

The Hess Collection vineyards represent the diverse growing conditions seen in the Napa Valley. We grow grapes in both cool climates and hot. Our sites are gently sloped along the Bay to steep in the mountains. History has taught us what is best for our vines, and we learn how to better tend to our vineyards with each passing vintage. This has allowed us to develop site specific viticulture programs for each of our ranches. At the same time we’ve instituted a number of environmentally-friendly initiatives that keep us at the forefront of sustainable vineyard practices.

Our mantra from the first vintage of Lorenza in 2008 was OLD VINES-OLD VINES to bring a sense of serious complexity and longevity to our delicate and feminine wine. A contrast of sorts. As a result Lorenza sources fruit from three vineyards over 100 years old. The Bechtold Vineyard was planted in 1847 and actually only recently identified as Cinsault. Lorenza sources a precious few bins of this important pear-like component each year. The beautiful expressive Grenache is planted in deep white sandy soil (think beach) with a history going way back before prohibition. The old, gnarled Carignan vines tell a long story and deliver a bright fresh burst of activity on the palate and crazy color from the skins. Recently more thoughtfully farmed, the fruit is more balanced and complete than in years past. The Mourvedre is farmed by an ambitious farmer with many varietals in his sandy soil. An important textural component for Lorenza, we get the only two rows he grows; they are the younger vines in this group.

When co-founders George Vare and Mike Moone first laid eyes on the Luna property in 1995, they instantly recognized the magic, and the amazing potential of its estate vineyard. Plus, it was perfectly located along the Silverado Trail. So they bought the property and followed their dream, building a winery that paid tribute to the varietals that set Napa Valley apart. They planted the visionary varietal Pinot Grigio on the estate vineyard.

For Robert Craig, winemaking always begins with the vineyards — more specifically, with his belief in the crucial importance of vineyard location in producing wines of tremendous depth and character. By concentrating on small quantities of wine from distinctive Napa Valley mountain vineyards, he has been able to create wines that reflect the impact of “terroir,” or the combination of soils, climate and viticultural characteristics of the growing locale. Our winemaking philosophy builds upon the best that the winegrowing appellation has to offer. The goal is to let each wine’s special personality and unique qualities shine through.

The craft of wine growing begins with the care of the soil and ends as an open bottle of wine on the table. RSV is a second generation, family-owned and operated vineyard and winery. RSV planted every vine for every wine with every vineyard holding organic certification by the CCOF. One could say that RSV is beyond organic. Since 1991, RSV has been practicing the “whole farm” philosophy of interrelationships based on Rudolph Steiner’s 1928 lecture “Agriculture.*” This approach stresses the need to heal damage done by modern, mechanized farming – tapping into the rhythms of nature, encouraging natural processes, to grow superior produce that require little but care to craft into expressive, vibrant and living wines.

Our story begins more than 50 years ago, when a celebrated American dancer named Rod Strong settled in Sonoma County to pursue a second lifelong creative passion: winemaking. Rodney Strong Vineyards was the 13th winery bonded in the newly discovered Sonoma County wine industry. A trio of winemaking paths crossed when Rick Sayre joined the team as Winemaker in 1979, and again when the Klein Family, 4th generation California farmers, purchased the winery in 1989 and initiated a renewed commitment of modern artisan winemaking. Through the years, Rodney Strong Vineyards has earned the reputation for critically acclaimed Single Vineyard and Reserve wines, stand out Estate releases and best-in-class Sonoma County varietal wines.

It’s often the tips we get from locals that help us find activities that are especially exciting and satisfying. Being in Park City is about experiencing something extra-ordinary. That is what we aim to do, to share something special: a new beer, a new experience, excitement, an adventure in a bottle.

The Twisted Cedar wines are a tribute to a proud people. We are honored to offer these wines for your enjoyment.

Our family established Twomey Cellars to pursue the discovery of varietals in California beyond Cabernet Sauvignon. We use the same philosophy that has guided Silver Oak since its founding in 1972: make exceptional, food-friendly wines that are deliciously drinkable upon release. We’re able to apply our 40 years of winemaking experience combined with a spirit of innovation to create our Merlot, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. With a focus on excellence and sustainability, we source fruit from some of the best appellations and vineyard sites in California. At our wineries in Calistoga and Healdsburg, we work small to create unique, approachable wines that you will enjoy with friends and family.

Uinta Brewing Co. Compass Logo with EWB-registered-no tagline

Uinta Brewing Company embarked upon its mission of brewing world class, full-flavored, craft-brewed beer in the winter of 1993. From a small, renovated mechanic’s garage located in Salt Lake City, Uinta began distributing a tasty variety of beer ranging from 4.0% to over 10% alcohol by volume to local bars, restaurants, and liquor stores. Demand escalated, resulting in the installation of a bottling line in 1996. Then, in 2001, having outgrown its original building, Uinta built and relocated to a 26,000-square-foot facility specifically designed for brewing beer. Uinta Brewing is named after an east-west mountain range located in northeastern Utah. Many of Uinta’s beer names are inspired by Utah’s diverse landscapes or have historical significance. Cutthroat Pale Ale, Uinta’s flagship beer, is named after Utah’s state fish. Subsequent beer names followed suit, such as King’s Peak Porter, named after Utah’s highest peak, Golden Spike Hefeweizen, named after the spike used to commemorate the completion of the transcontinental railroad in Utah, and Dubhe, named after the Utah Centennial star.

Vernal Brewing Company was founded by Ginger and Eric Bowden to satisfy their desired to bring top quality dining and craft beer to the Basin. Their passion was born through the art of home brewing and is where their quality craft beer receipts were made. This passion drove the couple to create a one-of-a-kind dining experience for the residence of Vernal and for all that visit. Today, the restaurant offers a garden inspired menu and the brewery is quickly become one of the best in the nation. “We wanted to bring a restaurant to our home town that could be found in any major metropolis,” said Ginger, “we have far exceeded our original goals and now have our eyes set on distributing our craft beers across the western United Stated to let everyone know where Vernal is and what it has to offer.”

“Where’s the beer? Where are the breweries?” Those were among the first thoughts Greg Schirf had after moving to Utah from Milwaukee in the early 80’s. Incredibly, drinking and brewing were all but forbidden. Greg took matters into his own hands and did what any self-respecting midwesterner would do: He started a brewery. Wasatch was the very first brewery in Utah – and one of the first craft brewers in all of the U.S. – brewing award-winning brews since 1986.
In 1988, Greg Schirf proposed another bill to the Utah Legislature making brewpubs legal in Utah and opened the first brewpub at the top of historic Main Street in the resort town of Park City. Wasatch continues to misbehave, turning out naughty beer after naughty beer year after year.

In 1883, C. H. Wente, a first-generation immigrant from Germany, purchased 48 acres in the Livermore Valley . Recognizing that the warm days, cool nights and gravelly soils of the Livermore Valley were ideal for growing grapes, he planted vines and founded Wente Vineryards. 130 years later, the Wente Estates continue to be family owned and operated by the fourth and fifth generation Wente’s, Eric, Philip, Carolyn, Christine and Karl.

Williamette Valley Vineyard’s mission in growing cool-climate varietals is to create elegant, classic Oregon wines from the Williamette Valley Appellation. As native Oregonians, they treasure their environment and use sustainable practices in growing and vinifying their wine grapes.
